Lego Instruction Creater (Lic) is a simple little LDraw application that helps you convert an LDraw model into high quality building instructions. It’s still in a very early development stage, but evolving quickly.

Lic is strongly inspired by the fantastic LPub. The final output from both programs is quite similiar — Lic just includes a handy WYSIWYG editor to make your job easier.

Instead of typing all layout instructions manually into your LDraw file, Lic gives you a full preview of each instruction page to play with. The preview is fully interactive; currently you can click on page elements and move them around. The interface also includes a tree-based view of your overall building instructions, useful for navigating the whole instruction book to find a certain page or instruction image.

Future plans include adding drag and drop support, so you can easily move steps from page to page, merge two pages, etc. You’ll also be able to set background and border colors, fonts, move steps to other pages, or combine them into a callout.

Lic is released entirely free, source code and all, under the GPL. I’ve been using LDraw and its apps for years now - with Lic, I just hope I can give a little something back to the community.
